B makes the sound you hear at the start of bear, ball, bus and banana. To say it, press your lips together and pop them open with a little voice behind it. Hold a hand near your mouth and you can feel a tiny puff. Capital B starts with a tall line straight down. Go back to the top and draw two bumps on the right side, a small one on top and a slightly bigger one below. Lowercase b is a tall line with one round belly at the bottom right. Many children mix up b and d; a handy trick is that b has its "bat" first, then the "ball", just as you read from left to right.
