About this coloring page
A is the first letter of the alphabet and a vowel, so it makes more than one sound. In apple, ant and alligator you hear the short sound, a quick "a" made with the mouth open wide. In acorn and apron the letter says its own name, the long sound. This letter A coloring page puts a big Aa at the top and the words A is for Apple underneath, so children can color the shapes and hear the short sound at the same time.
Capital A is built from two slanted lines that meet at a point at the top, joined by a short line across the middle, like a tent with a bar. Lowercase a is a small circle with a short straight line down its right side. Start the circle at the top and go around to the left, then add the line without lifting too far. The tracing rows below alternate A and a so both shapes get practice.
